Under the Manual of Procedure 2010, Rotarians are required to spend at least 30 minutes surfing on-line to qualify for make ups.

It has been a long but exciting journey for me since the day Budi and I charter our club in 11.1.11. We commenced our plan to start our own club in September 2010 with a couple of friends because we wanted to do something different and meaningful. Though it was a struggle at times with a fair share of disappointments along the way – we finally made it. Our PDG Fong Hoe Beng was instrumental in guiding us along the way with the help of several great Rotarians like PDG Chris Chen, PP BH Hoe, PP Ho Loon Shin, PDG Edward Burongoh. IPDG Kochitty Abraham took a great step by sending his best man, AG PP Alex Eow as his Special Representative to assist us in chartering the Rotary e-Club of Singapore. We strategise our formation and plans with great determination.

As a newly incepted club chartered on the auspicious date of 11.1.11, Rotary E-Club of Singapore is enthusiastic and committed in serving the Community at large on a broad spectrum of interests.

One unfortunate event for a young Thai girl, aged 14, named Nitcharee Peneakchanasak, on 4 April 2010, sparked a chain of events that brought the Rotary E-Club of Singapore into sharp focus and showcase the Rotarian Spirit of aiding the needy and helpless through our Rotary Network both locally and internationally. Our club became the talk of the town, as we were featured extensively in all the mainstream and social media throughout the month.

Although Rotary E-Club of Singapore is the youngest club during IPDG Abraham’s term of office, that has not stemmed our impetus to be active. To date, our club have donated 500 kgs of rice and 600 pairs of used jeans to Bishan Home, 600 pairs to Methodist Church in Jurong, 300 pieces of bath towels to Red Cross Home and 1000 blankets to Red Cross Singapore during the Japanese Tsunami. We have also helped furnished the flat of an elderly person staying alone, gave away furniture to the needy, computers to Villa Paulos Orphanage in Johor Bahru and participated in the Rotary District 3310 Assembly and Convention, Rotary International Convention. Since March 2012, we have been supporting Rotary Foundation on a project for the elderly that involves members and volunteers in taking the former out to various outdoor activities on a monthly basis. These include:

21 March: Briskwalking at East Coast Park

18 April: Briskwalking and entertainment at Bishan Park

16 May: Tour of Changi Airport T3

20 June: Fish Spa adventure at Qian Hu Fish Farm

My challenge begins now upon taking over the Presidency from our distinguished Charter President, Captain Budi Soehardi. I humbly hope to write a new chapter of this club with more programmes and activities to help the underprivileged in our society. With the help of many friends and fellow Rotarians, we will seek out new endeavours. One key area that I am passionate about is to help as many orphans in this world, starting with Roslin’s Orphanage in Kupang, West Timor (Indonesia), Villa Paulos Orphanage (Malaysia) and St. Ignatius Children Home, Barelang, Batam (Indonesia). I believe education is the key to unlocking the potential and value of every child and forms the important pillar for their future.

It has been great to us for being able to take out and outing with the senior citizen of one of the old folks home in Singapore . So much fun of which must be suitable to the elderly ( 6- 80 years of age) . Stretching and walking must be adjusted according to their phase. The same thing for the food we must make sure every one are able to eat it without creating any illnesses or making their health effected with it.

The pick up was held at The Rotary Family Center in Clementi avenue at 08 00 am and with two big buses ,we took them to places like East Coast lagoon or other good places to refresh ourselves.  The two big buses from Asia Travel are sponsored by our members , Rotarian Helen Yeo and husband Rotarian Patrick Ngo . The activities was started with light stretching then followed by the walk of about 1,5- 2 km .  At the end of the walk we did some more cooling down and stretching before having our breakfast together.

It was so great to see the senior citizen talking and sharing with their piers about so many things. The talks were covering many subjects and interests of which at the end of the outing they were saying to us that they are looking forward for the next outing with us. We are so encourage to do this outing regularly for them.

A  BLESSED EVENING TO ALL OF US

This evening , March 7th 2012 was a great evening where we were able to meet up and do some  catching up among members. We were so blessed to have 4 of the honorary members were with us on this meeting . One of them is IPDG DR  K A Abraham was giving us a very educational lecture about ENT ( ear nose and throat) . The other speaker was Ms Dale who was sharing with us about her ministry in Cambodia about the river kids. It was so sad to learn about babies and children being sold and become slaves in this century.

We were so privilege to have two visiting guests from Mexico of which they are the Mexican Rotary ambassador scholar . Mr Santiago Rivero Garcia Rojas and Mr Roberto Ascencio .  From Singapore we were so privilege to have Mr Kydon , a trainer in personal developer , Ms Viki Ong of Tuff Industries , Ms Ruyan , Ms Leng Shuh Pei , Subaya Misra , Sarika Prasad , Sarika Deepak  and Ms Kayla Yap from Singapore Airlines ( the person which we are seeing a lot  of her at Changi Airport posters) . Some of our members were unable to attend as most of them were out of Singapore . Rotarian Rosina was in Singapore but she was scheduled to teach at one of the center in Singapore for the low income society as a volunteer every Wednesday at 7 pm. We hope that her schedule can be changed in the future so that she can attend our physical meeting .

We have been so privilege also for always having visiting Rotarian from the other Rotary Clubs in Singapore .

On this meeting we shared about our PE Chris Bek who has just received a recognition by the government of Singapore for his bravery on saving a person’s life by acting quickly and pulled the person from a burning car then sent the victim to the hospital right away . He was so much quicker than the government’s ambulance and other means on saving the road accident victim.

Our member Rotarian Rosina Simon and some of her friends have  dedicated their time by writing a book of which well received by public  both in English and in Indonesian language managed to generate funding from the sales. The book title is  ” Raising a $mart Kid” . She dedicated all of the proceed for a literacy project in West Timor . Together with ” Yayasan Kasih Roslin ” ( ” Roslin Orphanage ” ) of which runs by Rotarian Budi Soehardi PHF and wife Rotarian Peggy Soehardi PHF  , and ” Yayasan Credo” , we managed to trained 34 teachers from the remote places in West Timor on January 2012  . Most of the teachers are the school principals .  The training was lasting for 4 days at ” Christati Hotel” about how to manage books and running a library. At the end of the training we gave  10 000 brand new books which were bought from ” Gramedia ” publisher . The course was attended by Bupati Titu Eki , the head of the regent to represent the province governor which was out of town .

On this meeting we shared the up coming activity on March 21st on taking out the old folks from The Rotary Family Center . There will be about 70 elderly people to be looked after on that day . Please come and help us with the preparations at The Rotary Family Center by to be there latest at 07:45 am . There will be 3 buses sponsored by Rotarian Patrick Ngo and Helen Yeo ( our members from ” Courier Coverage” ) to bring the old folks on that day . PDG Fong Hoe Beng will be with us plus some 5 people from The Rotary Family Center . Please join us and help us on managing this event.  We will bring them to  East Coast Lagoon and to arrive there around 0830 – 0845 am.  Our President Elect Chris Bek and Hon Secretary Yanti Tohari will be providing one or two ambulances  from Medic Network as for precautions if needed .

We are hoping with more efforts by All Rotarian this polio matter will be gone for good. Millions of dollars have been collected , spent and  99 % of the effected area in the whole world have been freed, it is our challenge to put the polio matter at rest

September is a special month as this time we are having the privilege of the District Governor’s visit . Together with District Governor Haji Zainie Abdul Aucasa  was the charming first lady Kalimah . It was a great gathering as we were having a full house guests and some Rotarian friends from other clubs as well.

We were so blessed with the present of 3 Honorary members , IPDG K A Abraham , PDG Fong Ho Beng and PDG Chris Chen. It was a privilege to have 3 heavy weight Rotary Champions among us for this September meeting.

Also this meeting was making us richer by having a new member signing up as our member.  Our warm welcome  to our new member , Mr Lim Sin Beng  of JP Morgan.

We were reporting in brief about the club’s history and the activities that have been made .  From the District Governor we were briefed about the objectives of which according to The Rotary International goals for this Rotary year. As the district’s goal we are aiming to have at least 2000 members by the end of this Rotary year. We will do our best and hoping that our new members can be inducted asap.

Rotarian Maria Boey was sharing about the District Project on how to preserve the nature , its a noble project and we should support this preserving efforts.

Our thanks to District Governor for the visit and for giving us encouragement upon how to be a better Rotarian. He is encouraging us to keep the Rotary things as simple as possible thus enabled to be known by Rotarian and NON Rotarian. During the fellowship DG Zainie was explaining about the Polio project and why Bill Gates has been supportive towards this worldwide Polio eradication project . Indeed because of this Polio efforts by Rotary on curing the world from Polio illness that made me to join Rotary.

Nitcharee, the Thai girl who fell into the AMK MRT railway track had gone home, by courtesy of Medic Network ambulance  and escorted by PE Captain Christopher Bek of Rotary E-Club of Singapore to the budget terminal airport on 13th June 2011.

Present were PP Brown Pereira of Rotary Club of Singapore East and PP Russi Ghadiali of Rotary Club of Raffles City of which a donation was also given from their club to Ms Nitcharee right on her departure.

Nitcharee was send off by well wishers from Rotary E Club of Singapore and gave her a motorised wheelchair and cash donation.

We wish Nitcharee all the best for her future endeavour.

For all who have been contributing toward Ms Nitcharee , on her and her family behalf we would like to thank you for your kindness and willingness to help out.

As planned  we went to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital,  the medical bills for Ms Nitcharee at Tan Tock Seng Hospital was settled in full.

A cheque of SGD 45 022  was signed by Charter President Budi Soehardi and Vice President and Vice President Chris Pan  and directly paid to Tan Tock Seng Hospital .

Several members of Rotary E-Club of Singapore will be going to Rotary Club Trang , Hatyai, Thailand   , for their installation evening and at the same time will pass all the collected donation funds to Ms Nitcharee’s family on June 30th. A fellow Rotarian from Rotary Club Singapore East who happen to be a lawyer PP Brown will be coming with us to Thailand.
